Throughout the Bible, God tells us to spend time in His Word …

To Joshua God said …

This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth;
but thou shalt meditate therein day and night … --- Joshua 1:8

To Timothy God said …

Study to shew thyself approved unto God,
a workman that needeth not to be ashamed,
rightly dividing the word of truth. --- 2 Tim 2:15

Why does God want us to study His Word?…
Because ...
... His Word is the foundation of our existence …!

Therefore God wants us ...
... to spend time with Him, to commune with Him,
... to get to know Him and to get to know His will!
... to build a relationship with Him!
Why is that necessary?

As God said to Joshua …

... for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous,
and then thou shalt have good success. --- Joshua 1:8

If you want to be successful and prosperous ...
… you need to be in God's Word!
God said to both Joshua and Timothy …
"You need the Word if you are going to make it in life!"

Sure ... a major part of life is success and prosperity.
But ...
... the need for having God's Word in you goes even deeper …

And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil,
who are taken captive by him at his will. --- 2 Tim 2:15

As God said to Timothy …
"You need the Word if you are going to make it in life …
... in the spirit and in the physical!"

How will God's Word give me success and prosperity in the physical ...
... and in the spirit?

Let's look a little closer at God's instruction to Timothy! (and therefore to us)

Study to shew thyself approved unto God,
a workman that needeth not to be ashamed,
rightly dividing the word of truth. --- 2 Tim 2:15

... and let's find out what God meant when He said … study …

Study to shew yourself approved … rightly dividing the word of truth …

Study (spoudazo) … make an effort, be earnest, be prompt
To shew (paristemi) … to stand beside, to be at hand, substantiate, recommend.
Approved (dokimos) … properly, acceptable … tried (tested and approved)
Rightly dividing (orthotomeo) … to make a straight cut, (knowing how to work with)
The word of truth … God's Word …

For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword,
piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and
marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. --- Heb. 4:12

In other words, we could say …

... Make an effort to substantiate yourself before God,
... tried, tested and approved ... before Him,
... knowing what God has said and how to deal with His Word,
... knowing how to apply and use the word of truth
in every situation in your life!

If you want to make it in this life, really be successful in this life …
… you need God's Word, all of God's Word!

You need to make an effort to find out what God really said and meant!
... No one can do it for you, you study, you find out, you be earnest!

You need to be ready, to stand beside, to be at hand to act on God's Word!
... You have to show what you are capable of!
... You need to be accepted … tried, tested and approved!
... You have to stand up and put God's Word to work in your situation!

There are no super heroes that will come save you ...
... but God through His Word ...

So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void,
but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.
--- Isaiah 55:11

But it is up to you ...
... to get to know His Word ...
... and to act according to and upon God's Word!

Remember ...
the devil will come with every dirty trick he can find ...
... to hurt you, steal from you and to try and stop you!

Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion,
walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:
--- 1 Pet 5:8

The devil will try anything to get you to go against God's Word …
… He will even twist God's Word to try to get you to sin …
He did it with Jesus in the wilderness (Matt. 4:-) ... and he will try it with us!
... As Jesus said of the devil ...

Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do.
He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth,
because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh
of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.
--- John 8:44

But if you know God's Word ...
... you will know what to believe ... and what to do!

So ...
why study the Word?
… To get to know God and His will!
… To build a relationship with God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit!
And …
… to be able to stand against the devil and his evil schemes.

Therefore …
… spend time in God's Word … so that you will know …
… so that when you are tried … you will remain standing …
… rightly dividing the word of truth … knowing what is right and what is wrong!
