My very first personal encounter with the Swahili language
was about a month or so before my first trip to Kenya, during August
2002 in
Zurich.
At the time I was able to
help a Kenyan businessman, James Omwakwe, who got stranded at Zurich
Airport with a visa that had
expired.
I managed to get his visa extended so that he could complete his
business
trip in Belgium.
"Asante Sana"
James said as I drove him back to the airport, having successfully
gotten the visa extended. Not knowing at all what that meant, I just
nodded and
dropped him off at the airport. We said good-bye to each other and that
we hoped to see each other again on one
of my trips to Kenya.
However, I did wonder what it was that James had said. To me
it sounded strange enough, but as I did not know anyone who spoke
Swahili
at the time, I simply forgot about it.
Little did I know however, how much those
words and also James would become a part of my ministry in Africa.
For those who have read the January 2003 magazine ... God always comes through ...
(it is online if you haven't yet)
... will know how James helped me in Nairobi on
one of my trips to Kitale, Kenya, and I was able to say "Asante Sana" to James, which by the way means "Thank you very
much!", as I had found
out by then.
I have since had many opportunities to say "Asante Sana ... Thank
you very much" particularly
to God, for what He has done for me every step of the way!
God is spiritually and literally clearing & opening
the way for His Word to go forth, all over the world ...
... and also all over Africa, God has been opening doors for His Word
to be ministered ... in cities, towns, villages, mountains &
plains.
God is preparing the way for His Word everywhere ...
Not only are the hearts of pastors and people prepared to receive ...
... but God is literally preparing the paths ...
... and confirming His Word all the way.
And
they went out and preached everywhere,
the Lord working with them and confirming the word
through the accompanying signs. Amen. ...Mark 16:20
Over the 160 000 km that I traveled in 2003 ...
... God again & again showed Himself strong on my behalf ...
... preparing the way and protecting me as I went ...
Do you pray asking God for
protection before you travel?
Do you command the angels in Jesus name ...
... to encamp around you ...
... to prepare the way before you ...
... to keep you safe ...
... to minister to your every need ...
I trust that you do,
and that you believe it too ...
For it is God's will, and a promise to you!
| Preparing and clearing the way...! |
On my trip to Mombasa in November this year ...
... God truly showed Himself strong in a
very physical way.
We left Nairobi in the rain on our way to Mombasa. The rain eventually
stopped about halfway to Mombasa, just before we got to a 30km
gravel detour. Yet due to the heavy rain that had fallen on the gravel
section, even the tar
road was half covered in mud.
Just before we reached the detour, as we
were coming around a bend in the road, a Truck trailer that had
jack knifed was blocking 2/3 of the actual road & all of the right
verge as well. At
the same time another truck, coming our way, was passing it taking up
the rest of the road including all of the road verge on the left. That
quite simply
meant there was no road left for us ... Except for trees and less than
half a meter of muddy verge.
Dawson, the Covenant Ministries director in Kenya, who was driving at
the time, automatically put his
foot on the brake ...
... the
wheels stopped ... but the car did not!
Well the choice was rather limited ...
Truck and trees on the right ...
Truck and trees on the left ...
... and a car that was not about to stop!
We probably had about 10 seconds before hitting something.
Yet something inside of me said ... "Left"
I thought to myself ... 'there is only a half a meter of mud
and trees' ...
Again something in me said ..."Left!"
"Left Dawson! ... Left!" I shouted, and praise God he responded
immediately.
How that half a meter of mud became over 2 meters wide only God
knows... All I know is that another 10 seconds later we had missed both
trucks and all the trees, and were sliding sideways at around 60 km/h
on
the muddy verge with Dawson trying to correct the slide and stop the
car from rolling ...
A few seconds after that we were heading in the right direction, on
the tar road, still traveling about 60 km/h with not even a scratch to
the car.
Without God and His protection we would have been just another road
accident statistic ...
With God ... we continued on our way, as if nothing had happened!
Why?
Because nothing did happen ...
... except that God showed up and did what only
He can do!
That did not stop the devil ...
... because, not 50km further we had 2 front tyre blowouts ...
and
...
... the closest town was over 30km away!

But neither did that deter us ...
A
passing truck stopped, gave Dawson a ride to the next town ...
... and less than 2 hours later, we were on our way again!
The reality of it all is ...
The
devil tried and lost ... again!
We continued with God, and won ... again!
That's Life ... and I will
not trade it for anything!
"Asante Sana ... Lord!"

The opposition to our trip to Mombasa, in the largely muslim south east
Kenya, such as the 2 near simultaneous blown tyres and
even a near fatal accident ... was not about
to stop us ...

Mombasa Old Town Mosques.
But ...
... served only to increase our
determination and to confirm the opportunities and harvest that there
is ...
Under a tree near Malindi on the North
Coast ...

In the Kilifi Royal Tabernacle, Kilifi ...

At the Mishomoroni Baptist Church.
Mombasa ...

In the Park in Mombasa ...

To the Mombasa Baptist Fellowship, Mombasa ...

... we found a hunger for the Word ...
... a readiness to receive the Word ...
... an acceptance of the Covenant Disciples Bible Courses ...
and an anticipation of the benefits from the Training program.
| Cast the net on the right side...! |
One of the greatest challenges of being
in ministry ...
... indeed of being a Christian,
is to not just hear the Lord's voice, but to act on it!
... and that applies to every area of our lives!
The apostle Peter had to learn that right at the beginning of His
ministry, to hear and to obey ...
Cast the net on the right side
...!
For as the body without the
spirit is dead,
so faith without works is dead
also.
James
2:26
Like the apostle Peter, who most times acted without hearing ...
We either hear but don't act on what we
have heard ...
... or ...
We act "in faith"... without having
listened to God ...
Both come up empty, and ...
Both
only lead to hurt!
Peter knew how to fish ... but Jesus knew where the fish were!
We have God's promises ... but do we listen to His voice?
Do you want to be prosperous?
Go fishing with Jesus...!
At the end of a blessed and
successful year ...
we would like to say to all our partners ...
who have supported us and contributed to this success ...
Asante Sana !
We thank you, our partners, once again ...
... for all your financial and prayer
support ...
Remember, it’s those prayers and continued support that make it
possible for us to reach the pastors & people, to touch and
change their lives … forever !
It truly is GOOD soil that we are sowing into ...
... and I believe for an ever increasing harvest!
Hallelujah !
In 1997 when God was leading me into a
new phase in ministry, when the foundation was being laid for the Bible
Courses and ministry to pastors and leaders ...
God also gave me the name for the ministry ...
... Covenant Ministries ...
Covenant
... the very heart of God Himself ...
... Love - Agape - to give ...
Covenant
... the very foundation of
God's love ...
... Being there for others ...
&
...
Being strong where they are weak!
... Covenant - the heart of ...
... Covenant Ministries &
our Covenant Partners.
So ... starting this month, we want to individually thank you, our
Covenant Partners who have been there for us, and have given from your
hearts, meeting a need, and enabling the ministry to step out that much
further!

Merci
Beaucoup ...
Helene & Henry ...
your translation of the Foundation
Courses and (in-progress) translation of the Advanced Courses into

parts of the
African continent, that were not possible for us to reach before ...
