will, but Yours, be done!

There is probably no more contentious issue in man’s encounter with God, … than the question of, His Will or your will! And although the response of most “Christians” … may seem to differ greatly from that of the “world”, in reality they are both rooted in, … Fear and Self! The “world” fears losing their own will! The “church” fears using its own will! This however is neither correct nor founded on God’s will for man! So what about our ‘free will’ is it that God … wants, demands or expects of us? Why did God give man a free will? To surrender our will? To deny our will? To use our will? To yield our will? The best starting point to answering this question, … is to look at what Jesus said or did. "Father, if it is Your will, take this cup away from Me; nevertheless not My will, but Yours, be done." --- Luke 22:42 When Jesus said … not My will, but Yours be done, … what was Jesus doing with His will? We easily talk of the dangers of sin, … saying that sin is not only wrong, but in fact that God hates sin, and so He does! But, what is it that God hates? Well, let’s look at what God Himself said about it… These six things the LORD hates, Yes, seven are an abomination to Him: A proud look, A lying tongue, Hands that shed innocent blood, A heart that devises wicked plans, Feet that are swift in running to evil, A false witness who speaks lies, And one who sows discord among brethren. --- Prov. 6:16-19 God’s definition of sin and His list of what He hates, is not necessarily what our list would look like! God hates it when someone, … looks down on others! … lies to others! … does harm to others! … plans evil against others! … does wrong, not considering others! and causes divisions between people! The Bible says causing divisions is an abomination to God! Looking closer at God’s list helps us understand that … God hates sin not only because it is doing something against another, but because it sows discord! Read ...
